Burley Real Estate
|
The real estate in Burley, Idaho is truly a bargain! The median value of single-family
housing in 2006 was a mere $87,525, which makes Burley one of the most affordable
cities in Idaho to purchase a home. Compared with the average for the state of Idaho
($189,000) and even the nation ($246,000), property for sale in Burley is remarkably
inexpensive.
Most people moving from virtually anywhere else in the United States are surprised
to see the size of home and the amount of land they can afford. Burley is the place
where that dream home out in the country can easily be made a reality.

A Short History of Burley, Idaho
|
The city of Burley, Idaho was founded in 1905 when I. B. Perrine (see Twin Falls
Real Estate) and several others platted a town on the south bank of the Snake River.
Burley was incorporated on July 19, 1909. It was named after an Oregon Short Line
Railroad Company passenger agent by the name of David E. Burley.
Although originally located in Albion, the seat of Cassia County was moved to Burley
on November 5, 1918. The courthouse built in 1939 is still the primary building
being used by the Cassia County government today.
One of the unique features of Burley is the fact that it spans two counties. Most
of Burley is located in Cassia County, but there is a small section north of the
Snake River that is in Minidoka County.

Burley Economic Information
|
According to the 2000 census, the population of Burley was 9,316 which doesn't include
the very large rural population. The estimated median household income in 2005 was
about $35,502, up from $32,186 in 1999. If you live anywhere else in Idaho or the
United states, that might not seem like much. However, combined with the incredibly
affordable price of housing and a cost of living that is well below the national
average, Burley is one of the best places to make your dollar stretch.
The area economy is based heavily on agriculture with several potato processing
plants, including McCain's (formerly Ore-Ida Foods). Burley is known for dairy and
beef cattle, potatoes, sugar beets and numerous other crops. There are several manufacturing
plants as well, including Boise Packaging (formerly Boise Cascade) better know as
"the box factory" and Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc., a leader in the recreational
vehicle industry.
Opportunities for employment as well as starting or moving a business are excellent.

in this unique event which draws thousands of spectators every year.
Burley is the home of not one, but TWO golf courses! There is also a public skate

to leave the area.

What I Love About Burley, Idaho
|
There is such diverse opportunity of life here, from the 10,000 foot peaks with
glacier lakes to hike or horseback into to the lava flow desert to the north. The
mountains provide great hunting opportunity with elk, mule deer, turkey and upland
game. Snow skiing at Pomerelle is a great family adventure as well as the miles
of snowmobiling trails.
The people here are the true draw as it is impossible to go anywhere that you don't
feel welcome and like you just came from a reunion of sorts! County fairs, rodeo's,
July 4th celebrations and holiday's all offer community events and gatherings that
only this small community can provide in the diverse style it does!
